Who I am

Reality is hard, and it doesn’t always make sense. It is human nature to create narratives around the events in our lives and a way to create (or pretend to create) order and reason. I have been watching my children make sense of their lives with make-believe play, and wildly embelished stories of their day. Retelling these stories is how I participate with my children in their playful and whimsical escapism and disassociation. The work is about storytelling, but the story itself doesn’t matter.

The mediums I choose reflect how I bring order and reason to the chaos within myself. For me, art is play, and I prefer to use the medium that feels right in the moment. Finding and learning new methods and materials is part of my own journey of learning and discovery. As children will use games of make-believe to process their existence, explore their world, begin to understand themselves, and practice being human, I turn to artistic and media exploration as a way to do the same.
